Here's the problem: The string quilt blocks have a muslin foundation which makes the border of single layer fabric very flimsy compared to them. I think I know the answer to this but would you "line" the border with a layer of muslin to make it drape and wear better? Obviously if I don't, the weight of the body of the quilt will be very different from the border.
I'm concerned that I may get a wrinkle in the muslin or border and it won't lay flat. Also, I just want to finish this quilt not spend more time on it! On the other hand, I don't want to look at it later and wish I'd added muslin behind the border.
There aren't many of you out there reading this blog but those who do, would you please leave me a comment and tell me what you think I should do? Thanks!

I think I would add a full sized 'thin batting' like warm 'n natural to cover the whole thing. That way your borders are reinforced and should drape the same. I'm interested to see what others would do.
I'm planning to use Quilter's Dream polyester batting which the quilt shop recommended.

Using a double-fold binding should give it some additional weight and I think that would be sufficient.
I agree, use double fold binding would be good. I'm not sure about the drape of the border... do you plan to machine quilt or hand quilt on the top or to tie it? If you're tying it I'd say you might like an extra layer (but personally I wouldn't worry about it too much). If you're machine quilting it I don't think it will matter too much at all.

I think I understand your 'problem'.
Though you do have the border sewn to the body of the quilt already.
BUT, IF you removed the border, spray baste muslin to the border strip and continue from there. By the time you quilt whether by machine or by hand the spray basting should keep the two strips together with no 'winkles'.
Hope this gives you yet another option.
