28 years of service

Twenty-eight years ago, I purchased this European model Pfaff Synchromatic 1215 sewing machine and today it may have sewn its last stitch. It has sewn many miles of thread and fabric - everything from clothing to crafts to curtains and finally, quilts. This morning, I was hurrying to finish piecing a donation crazy quilt wallhanging. Finished one seam and when I wanted to sew the next, my machine would not sew unless I turned the wheel by hand. My husband thinks it may be the motor but I'm hoping not.

It will be next week before I can take it to the repairman or look for a new sewing machine. I'm in the middle of several quilt show quilts, other projects plus the donation quilt so something will have to be done soon so I can sew again.

I won't have access to my computer this weekend but I'm wondering if there's anyone willing to share what kind of sewing machine you use and if you'd recommend it. I'd appreciate hearing from you!

I love Pfaff. I know many who love Bernina. I think it is important you test them well befroe making the purchase. I don't use all the bells and whistles on the newest models.
Good luck!

Bernina. Bernina. Bernina. That's what I've always used. I have TWO old 830 Records and they're both workhorse machines. If you're wanting something with a beautiful stitch, go with a Bernina. I would get an old 930, if I was looking for used. Or a QE 150 or QE153 which are "Quilters' Editions." Look for a used one on Craigslist. Deals are out there! Sorry this happened to you though. A sewing machine breakdown never occurs at a good time. You should always have a back-up sewing machine, so maybe you should look to buy two!

Hi
I have a Viking, it's my second. I tried Bernina, but somehow it wasn't for me.
Having said that, mine is in the shop for a new button and I just found out it's back ordered and will be in for 3 more weeks :(
On the upside, I'm using my 15 year old viking and it still works well.

I had a Pfaff and after a few years it had major problems. I have been told that they are not made as well as in the past, mosly plastic parts now. I love the built in walking foot on Pfaff. However, I now have a Bernina and am happy with it, but miss the built in walking foot.
Have fun shopping, besure to test drive what every you may be interested in.

I have both a Pfaff (about 10 years old) and a newer modwel Bernina, I love them both. I've found that service for my Bernina is better in my area than the Pfaff.

I'm finally catching up on my blog reading! I emailed you about your question, so I won't repeat myself here, but I know you'll probably be more confused after you read everyone's opinion LOL!!! Good luck either getting another motor or a good replacement machine!!

I own 3 Bernina 930s. My first one, purchased in 1986, is about worn out though. I have friends who purchased Janomes and they love them. My advice is always to test drive any machine and make sure it is made of more metal than plastic. Good luck!

I love my Bernina and I have a great place now that I go for service, thats key!
try out the machine with your own fabric and what kind of stitching you want to do on the machine before you chose the one one you like best.
make sure you like the shop and the service is exceptional...ask your friends locally if they like they shop and service
thats key in mho.

You may want to look at Babylock too. More machine for the money and a wonderful company to back up their warranty.
