Time to try again

(Just a little whining before I try to fix what I did yesterday.)
I probably shouldn't have worked on my Love Entwined (LE) yesterday but maybe it was a good "learning experience"!

- I now have two small fabric bleeds from the red petals. Don't ask how that happened. I should have known better. I'll finish this part of the quilt top and then soak it in hopes of removing the bleeds. If I can't get them out, I'm going to be very disappointed.
- Then I made eight of those light blue fried egg shapes (upper and lower centers) and I'm not convinced that I'm liking them. I'm just glad they're only pinned on and not stitched down yet. I plan to remake them in a red gingham to see which is better.
- I started replacing the heart wreath on the right but the center where the points meet could be done a lot better. Today I'll also pick out my stitching and try to remove the glue basting without damaging the hearts.

When I was working on my Phebe quilt, someone remarked that to make a quilt like that one needed a lot of time. Along with time, I'd add persistence.

"Don't let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in your way of doing it. The time will pass anyway; we might just as well put that passing time to the best possible use."
- Earl Nightingale

Time to try again, Mayleen

This is going to beautiful when she is finished. Yes, it does take persistence and a lot of patience. Sorry about the bleed. Hope it does come out.

Oh how beautiful! I love the fried egg shapes just the way they are. As for the bleeding, I had a true disaster with my Dear Jane. I prewash everything and usually wash reds twice, but 5 of the reds in the quilt started bleeding while hung in a show (not sure why). I was so upset I left it in the bag for months. Then one day I took it out and threw it in the washer with 7 color catchers. It came out beautifully! I swear by those things now! Good luck!

It's such an amazing quilt. Best of luck getting the fabric bleeds out and the heart wreaths set to your satisfaction!

I love your version of this quilt, Mayleen... really beautiful! O that bleeding... I wish you all the luck with it. I am also a true fan of color catchers!

So beautiful! Your persistance is paying off. I heard dawn dish detergent is good at taking out dye.

Ohhh how disappointing and so frustrating, there is no way my LE can be washed as it is mostly made of kimono silks and they are all different weights; silk shrinks when washed and they would all shrink to different degrees. It would end up looking like a dogs blanket!!!!! I will have to give it to a quilting museum to keep it safe????? Thanks for sharing and I hope you manage to remove all the pieces safely. Thinking about you and sending lots of positive vibes. Cheers Glenda

Love the blue fried eggs. Try color catchers first.

Soaking should work for your quilt. I did a lot of testing on dealing with bleeding fabrics and if you soak in hot water with Dawn overnight it should be fine. Details of my testing are here: http://vickiwelsh.typepad.com/field_trips_in_fiber/2014/01/bleeding-quilts-please-read-this.html

PS Color Catchers don't do anything to remove the bleeding dye. They just pick up the dye from the water. It's the soap that does all the work.

I don't know if you've tried the Dawn (blue color) dish detergent, but it is pretty amazing stuff...lots of info on it on line and I've had great luck with it! Your quilt is beautiful!

oh it sure does take persistence. I would also say a few tears. This is an amazing quilt and will be well worth it!

I once had thoughts of Doug LE but in the end I didn't. But I am still very smitten with this quilt and yours is fabulous!! And I agree with you.

Mayleen, your colors are beautiful. I have yet to settle on colors for my LE, so I appreciate everyone who has shared. Hope you keep us posted about the bleeding thing. I do love the blue. I think that's something that keeps the quilt from being so "heavy" looking, if that makes sense. You do such beautiful work.
